Meet Honor 9i – The First Smartphone with Four Camera Setup

Honor, Huawei’s e-brand for digital natives, today unveiled the Honor 9i smartphone with intuitive and powerful 4-camera set up; a crisp and vibrant FullView FHD+ display and a sleek, industrial design.

The Honor 9i is focused on enhancing the overall smartphone experience for consumers enabling them to explore and discover various exciting new photography aspects.

Leveraging in-house premium technology, Honor 9i cameras produce flattering pictures with 45-degrees projection, making every shot a ‘cover shot under butterfly lightning’.

The 13 MP dual-lens front camera incorporates studio-level smart selfie toning flash and delivers remarkable bokeh effect. The 16 MP dual lens back camera produces richer pictures with vivid details for a more sophisticated photography experience.

The Honor 9i will be available starting 14th October exclusively on Flipkart at Rs 17,999/- for 4 x64 RAM /ROM configuration .

With a 8-core Kirin 659 chipset under the hood and 4X64 RAM/ROM internal storage, the Honor 9i is capable of seamlessly running multiple tasks efficiently.

Huawei’s Android 7-based EMUI 5.1 intelligently optimizes user experience by learning and predicting user behavior, making it a device that really understands its owner and acting on this knowledge to improve performance. The 3340mAh battery delivers power efficiency with talk time upto 20 hours.

MWC 2017: Round Up

The Mobile World Congress which is held in Barcelona is a great platform for both the smartphone makers & tech community. This year MWC was bigger & better than the previous one.

MWC 2017 witness the key announcements from big players like LG,Motorola, Huawei, Sony are few to names. Not only this, this time MWC 2017 gave re-birth to some of the key players like Nokia & Blackberry.

Nokia 3310 & other Android Devices

The biggest turn around & the most awaited device was launched by NOKIA. This year Nokia has done a comeback in the devices segment. The brand has introduced couple of Android powered Smartphone’s along with an updated version of the legendary Nokia 3310.

Nokia has joined hands with HMD Global, owners of the Nokia brand.  Nokia 3310 has 2.4-inch colour display (320 x 240 pixels), 3.5mm audio jack, microUSB port and a 2MP rear camera. There is a D-pad in the center of the device.

The device has 16GB storage which can be expandable up to 32GB and support a 1,200mAh battery. It comes in four different colour variants, runs on the Symbian 30 operating system and will come with a new version of classic Snake game.


Another feather Nokia’s has added to its hat during MWC 2017 was launch of Nokia 6. The devices comes with 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, a 5.5′ fullHD display and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 435 processor. On the imaging front, the smartphone features a 16MP rear camera with PDAF and an 8MP front camera for selfies.

It has four color variants namely Matte Black, Silver, Copper and Tempered Blue and will be launched at a price of 249 Euros which is around Rs 17,600. There is also an ARTE Black version of the smartphone with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage for 299 Euros which is around Rs 21,000.

Huawei P10

Huawei has come up with the most powerful device at MWC 2017. The P10 comes in 5.1 inch IPS LCD screen with 1080p HD display and the P10 Plus with 5.5 inch screen with quadHD display. The phones deploy 8 core processors and sport 12 megapixel camera. The brand claims to support data speed in Gigabytes!


Blackberry is another brand which is coming back in the smartphone market with its new devices. The brand has called off for not manufacturing the devices anymore. BlackBerry has tie up with TCL to manufacture their devices. This year at MWC 2017, the Canadian firm’s launched the BlackBerry KEYone. The 4.5 inch smartphone comes with a physical keypad, fingerprint sensor, runs on Android Nougat and 13 MP cameras.

Moto G5 and G5 Plus

Motorola never fails to impress the consumer with its unique design & specifications. This year too, at MWC 2017 The Moto G5 and G5 Plus come with a unique design with a circular camera panel, a metal body, slightly rounded edges, a home button up front and a new silver colour variant. Built from metal, they also look and feel more premium than the plastic G4/G4 Plus.

The Moto G5 Plus comes with a 5.2-inch fullHD display, a 3,000mAh battery with TurboPower quick charging support, Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box, 32/64GB of expandable storage as well as a fingerprint scanner.

The Moto G5 on the other hand comes with a smaller 5.0′ fullHD display, 32 GB of expandable storage and the slower Snapdragon 430 processor. On the imaging front, the G5 has a 13MP rear camera with a 5MP camera at the front.

Both the smartphone is powered by Qualcomm’s mid-range Snapdragon 625 processor paired with 2/4GB of RAM.


The Korean firm LG, unveiled the biggest phone of MWC 2017 – the LG G6. The LG G6 comes in 5.7 inch screen size. The LG G6 is water and dust resistant devices. The LG G6 comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 4 GB RAM, 64 GB internal storage and fingerprint sensor.

The phone is coupled with carries 3300 mAh battery. G6 sports a dual camera array on the back with two 13MP sensors with one of them having a wide-angle lens with a 125-degree field of view.

LG has not yet announced the pricing of the device. Let’s see what they have in for the consumers.


ZTE has surprised the audience at MWC 2017. This Chinese smartphone maker, ZTE claimed to have launched world’s first Gigabit phone to be used on 5G networks. Named Gigabit Phone, this smartphone from ZTE offers download speed up to 1 gigabit per second!

Sony Xperia XZ Premium

Sony has been in news for its premium segment devices. This year at MWC Sony, has introduced Xperia XZ Premium. The Smartphone is bundled with 4GB of RAM, a 3,230mAh battery with QuickCharge 3.0 support and Android 7.0 out of the box. As with previous Xperia’s, the power button doubles up as a fingerprint scanner.

Oppo 5X

Oppo like always has played around the camera technology. This year at MWC 2017 they have  unveiled a revolutionary new camera technology that allows 5X optical zoom on smartphones. This technology allows for 5X optical zoom without any bulk.

The camera barely peeks out of the smartphone’s surface. The system has a set of lenses stacked along the phone’s width that move to change focal length going from 1X all the way through 2X, 3x and 5X in steps.

This year MWC 2017 was a revolution for smartphones or devices from across the brand. Some of the players vent into the flagship devices or some of the brands launched unique technology driven devices.


As always, CES lived up to its expectations: 2017 Round Up

The Consumer Electronic Show (CES) gave us a trend which is going to rule in 2017. We would like to share some key innovations & trends that were announced, call it the CES 2017 Round up. This year CES witnessed an array of innovation’s across the segments. The major launches we saw were ranging from home audio products, appliances, laptops, TVs and many more. With this great year ahead, we can see some technology innovations to hit Indian market as well.

LeEco unveiled Android-powered BikeOS and feature touchscreen display named as Smart Road Bike that helps cyclists navigate rides and track performance. It features handlebar, SR Suntour XCR Air front fork, and 27.5-inch diameter wheelset. This one weighs 26.9 pounds. LeEco Smart Road Bike features an aerodynamic Toray T700 carbon fiber frame, fork, seat post, handlebar, and wheels. It weighs 18.5 pounds. LeEco’s smart bikes will be available in the US in second quarter of 2017.

Asus launched Chromebooks, slim laptops, and compact PCs. Asus, the Taiwanese manufacturer has been amusing consumers by its latest innovation in segments like smartphones, PCs, Laptops, tablets etc. Asus has recently introduced   Chromebook Flip C302 at CES 2017, which has a screen that bends 360 degrees to go into tablet mode. It runs Chrome OS and supports Android apps too.

Not only this, the brand has unveiled “the thinnest business notebook in the world”,  AsusPro B9440 as per the company. It has a full-HD display, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD.  The VivoPC X is around the size of a gaming console, and packs hardware that’s ready for VR gaming, thanks to an NVIDIA GTX 1060 inside. The keyboard has an interesting tilted angle for easier typing, kind of like the Surface Pro 4.

Qualcomm has been batting big on System on Chip (SoC) in recent past. Recent development has been the major achievement from the brand. The Snapdragon 835 is an octa-core chip built on a 10nm fabrication process features Quick Charge 4.0 and has improvements across the board. Two years down the line, Qualcomm introduced Snapdragon 810 chip, which was not up to the mark. Last year, 2016 the brand launched Snapdragon 820. We heard a lot about Snapdragon 835 at the end of last year, which provides power to a majority of Android flagships, finally, it has been launched.

Wearable & Virtual Reality (VR)

Last year, was a year for wearables. We saw brands & startups came up with new wearables devices. This year as well, we are going to witness some great wearables from the brand. At biggest technology event, CES we saw some great innovations in wearables. Some are worth mentioning.

Fitness Ring Motiv with a Built-In Heart Rate Sensor was unveiled. Motiv is a new fitness wearable that’s been unveiled. It’s a ring with a built-in heart rate sensor that sets a daily “active minutes” goal for you. This ring will track your steps, sleep, and the amount of time you remain active.

Wair, a French Startup introduced a scarf called, dubbed Wair, it is first “anti-pollution scraf” which can be both fashionable accessories & anti-pollution gas mask.

The scarf is worn as a normal scraf wrap, but it is baggy from the middle. If app notifies you, called “Supairman” — you can pull it up over your face and seal a respirator mask over your nose and mouth.

The scarf is supposed to contain an embedded filter that can remove dust, gases and bacteria. It’s unclear just how effective it will be, although the startup notes that the filter will need changing every two to four weeks, at roughly $5 to $10 each time. The product is expected to ship in a few months, starting at about $55 for men and $90 for women.

Another unique product came up from HTC, trackers for its Vive virtual-reality system that users can attach to physical objects such as bats or toy guns in order to make them part of a virtual reality adventure.

The company introduced a number of tracker-enabled accessories; including what it says is the first VR camera, multiple rifles built for VR shooters and haptic gloves. The tracker weighs less than three ounces; the company hasn’t set a price. HTC plans to give away up to 1,000 trackers to developers. The company will also offer first ever app subscription service, which will allow unlimited access to VR apps for a flat monthly fee. That service will launch in early 2017. However, HTC didn’t give a word on the prices.

TV’s are back!

There was a phase where, TVs were demand was diminishing with growing demand of laptops & tablets. This year at CES we saw major brands like Samsung, Panasonic ,LG & Sony introducing new & improvised version of TV’s. The moves come as high-definition and 4K TVs are becoming cheaper and more mainstream, so top TV makers are competing for the higher end of the market.

Xiaomi showcased the Mi TV 4. Mi TV 4 has a 4.9mm ultra-thin frameless metal body. The 65-inch version is designed with a modular approach, with the separate Mi TV Bar consisting of the mainboard and a sound system that supports Dolby Atmos, delivering a stunning viewing experience within the home that rivals the experience in a cinema.

New television sets from LG will include an ultra-slim model that’s less than 4 millimetres (0.15 inch) thick. The thin design also allows the TV to be wall mounted on a steel frame via magnetic brackets, thereby eliminating the gap between the TV and the wall.

The new TV will also have better audio, using Dolby Atmos technology, along with high-end OLED screen technology. OLED — which stands for organic light-emitting diode — can produce better pictures because each pixel produces light individually. OLED is rare in TVs and is currently found mostly in smartphones. LG also says an LG Technicolor mode will be added to TVs in 2017 to add to colour accuracy.

PANASONIC unveiled EZ1000 OLED TV and claims that it is the first HDR-capable OLED TV in the world. Whereas, Sony announced its first OLED 4k smart Bravia TV —XBR-A1E. It has a unique fold out stand that has all the ports and hides the TV’s internals. The range will include panel sizes of 55, 65 and 77-inches and all three will run Android TV. Sony’s standout feature for the OLED TV is audio.

Gaming Laptops

In our last post, we have mentioned about certain laptops & laptops which are prominent for gaming. Within the 4 days of span, we have come across certain more laptops from various brand.

LENOVO & Acer has launched LEGION Y720 & ACER ASPIRE VX15 respectively. Legion is Lenovo’s new subbrand for gaming laptops. The current launched model Y720, is powered by a 7th gen Intel Core i7 processor, NVidia 1060 GPU with 6GB dedicated memory, 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD. It has a 15.6-inch display with option of full HD or 4k resolution, multicolour backlit keyboard and is Oculus certified for VR.

It is also the first PC that is Dolby Atmos certified. ACER ASPIRE VX 15 a 15-inch full HD display and weighs 2.5kg. Hardware includes a 7th generation Intel Core i5 or i7 processor, up to 32 GB RAM, NVidia graphics with 4 GB dedicated memory and up to 512 GB SSD. There are four USB ports (3 x USB 3.0, 1 x USB 2.0), HDMI, Ethernet and an SD card reader. The gaming notebook is aimed at budget gamers with prices starting as low as US$ 800.

Kingston also introduced its DataTraveler Ultimate GT flash drive, touted as world’s highest capacity USB flash drive, with storage capacity up to 2TB. The newly-launched flash drive has been launched by Kingston in two storage variants of 1TB and 2TB. It will start shipping in February.

The leading brand in camera, CANON has introduced Powershot G9 X MARK II. It is a compact form & is the smallest cameras with a large 1 inch 20MP sensor. This one continues with its compact form factor and is amongst the smallest cameras with a large 1-inch 20MP sensor. The camera is powered by Digic 7 image processor, has 3X optical zoom, ISO 12800, full HD video recording and 8.2fps continuous shooting speed. There is a 3-inch touchscreen display along with WiFi, Bluetooth and NFC connectivity.



Xiaomi showcases Mi TV 4 at the CES 2017

Xiaomi showcased the Mi TV 4 at CES 2017 today. Mi TV 4 has a 4.9mm ultra-thin frameless metal body. The 65-inch version is designed with a modular approach, with the separate Mi TV Bar consisting of the mainboard and a sound system that supports Dolby Atmos, delivering a stunning viewing experience within the home that rivals the experience in a cinema.

Mi TV 4 is extremely thin at 4.9mm. With a screen that goes almost all the way to the edge, the 4K display takes centerstage. This is further complemented by a transparent stand.

Mi TV 4 (65″) has been crafted with a modular design approach first introduced with Mi TV 3. The TV set is separated into two parts: a 4K display and the Mi TV Bar, which incorporates both the motherboard and an independent sound system that now includes up-firing speakers.

These speakers, together with a subwoofer and two rear wireless satellite speakers together make up the Mi TV 4 Dolby Atmos home theatre. Dolby Atmos utilises the up-firing speakers to project sound overhead, so audio envelopes the viewer in 3D space, rather than on a 2D plane like in typical surround sound.

Having such a design makes Mi TV 4 easily upgradeable, as changing the Mi TV Bar will make any TV like a brand new product, while keeping the 4K panel unchanged.

Mi TV 4 will be available in China at a later date, with an estimated price well under US$2000 for the 65-inch version that comes with the Dolby Atmos home theatre.

Google Pixel Phone will be available for Pre-order starting Oct 13 in India

Google today announced the launch of Pixel, the first-ever phone made by Google. The Pixel is the first phone with the Google Assistant built right in, bringing together the best of Google’s software and world-class hardware and making the Google experience come to life.

Pixel will be available for pre-order in India starting October 13th 2016 on Flipkart and at over 1000 plus organized and multi-brand retail stores with leading retail partners including Reliance Digital, Croma and Vijay sales among others. India is among the first six countries where Pixel is being launched.

Pixel will be available in India in two sizes – 5” or 5.5” and two colours – Quite Black and Very Silver with memory configurations of 32GB and 128GB sizes. Pixel is priced at 57,000 INR for 32 GB and 66,000 INR for 128GB; whereas, Pixel XL is priced at 67,000 INR for 32 GB and 76,000 INR for 128 GB version.

Xiaomi launches Mi Pay in China Today

Xiaomi and China UnionPay, one of the world’s largest payment networks, jointly launched Mi Pay today, a revolutionary way to pay with Xiaomi smartphones in China.

Xiaomi also announced that it now supports public transportation cards from six cities. With this, Xiaomi becomes the first smartphone company in the world to support contactless payments through both bank and public transportation cards. Mi Pay will supports debit and credit cards from 20 banks to begin with.

Up to eight cards can be tied to any one device. Mi Pay users also get to benefit from promotions and rewards offered by the banks.

Users can simply add their China UnionPay and public transportation cards to the Mi Wallet app as shown below.

In stores, instead of having to swipe a card when making payment, users just have to hold their device near China UnionPay’s QuickPass-enabled POS terminals and the bank card details will popup. After fingerprint verification, the device is then activated and can be used as a bank card. This results in an extremely simplified payment process: users can complete their transactions just by holding their smartphone near the POS terminal with a finger on the fingerprint scanner.

Xiaomi uses NFC for Mi Pay. NFC has been there for a while now; Hopefully, this will help change the landscape of mobile payments and increase the adoptions.

Other than hardware-level security, Xiaomi has also incorporated multiple authentication mechanisms that protect user information in these scenarios: adding a bank card, smartphone theft or loss, and attempted fraud. For example, users have to be logged in to their Mi Account when they are adding a bank card, which ensures the safety of their personal data. For transactions, Mi Pay employs tokenization to protect plain text credit card information, and makes users verify their fingerprint for maximum security. If a device is lost, users can turn off Mi Pay through the official website, and find their device using Mi Cloud.

Mi Pay could help resolve the frauds w.r.t Mobile Payments and data breaches. This can also be a simple substitute to the 2 factor authentication and OTP as well.

After Brexit, Prices of the OnePlus Phones may increase in the UK

After Brexit last week, there has been lot of buzz in the media about how this could potentially affect the political scenario and financial stabilities in the UK. We also saw a drop in value for the British Pound in the market. Few of us were sure that, this would also impact technology products and education sectors in the region. Today, OnePlus reached out to their customers and fans explaining about how brexit would impact the margins which they make by selling their phones.

Most of us know that, the company has been taking less margin, thereby pricing the phone competitively to deliver flagship tech at an affordable price. OnePlus further said that, there would be an increase of price on the phones in the coming days.

OnePlus is a global company with fans across the world. The UK is one of the most important markets for OnePlus. So given the uncertainty following the unexpected Brexit developments, we wanted to explain how this might affect our business in the near future.

We’ve always strived to create the best product and deliver them to customers at a reasonable price. However, the worrying downward trend of the GBP may make it difficult to maintain our current pricing structure in the UK. Our margins have always been thin, and our expenses are mainly in USD. This being the case, sudden drops such as the one that the Pound has recently experienced could have a direct impact on our prices.

We’re telling you this now because we don’t want you to be blindsided. If you’re thinking of buying, we recommend doing so sooner rather than later. However, if a price change comes to pass, it will not be a decision that we take lightly. We have only had to increase prices once before, when the Euro hit a nine-year low against the dollar at the beginning of 2015, and we did so reluctantly. Currency fluctuations are not your fault, nor our fault; but if we sell at a loss, the simple fact is that there won’t be a OnePlus in the future.

By no means are we worried about our business in the UK, Europe or globally. We’re confident that the OnePlus 3 is one of the best phones out there, and it’s our most successful product ever. The fact that we significantly increased lifecycle volume forecast, our orders to suppliers, and still sold out completely within hours of our launch proves that we’re not the only ones that think this way. Hundreds of you came out to see us at the recent pop-up store in London, and thousands more visited our pop-ups around the world. We’re proud of the progress we’ve made together with you over the past two years and a half years.

Whatever happens with our prices in the UK, it won’t come out of the blue. We’ll try as best we can to keep you informed, when we know more, we’ll be sure give you several days of notice.

Amazon Inspire, a Free Service for Digital Education

Amazon announced Amazon Inspire, a free service for the search, discovery and distribution of digital educational resources. Amazon Inspire will help teachers discover and share free, quality digital educational resources. Teachers from around the U.S are being invited to support learning and teaching in the digital classroom; to help Amazon’s support of the U.S. Department of Education’s #GoOpen initiative.

This campaign encourages states, school districts and educators to use openly licensed educational materials to transform teaching and learning. Amazon Inspire is in the beta stage and is ready for teachers to use and provide feedback. Apple introduces Search Ads with iOS 10 for iPhone and iPad

Apple introduced Search Ads in iOS10 to help developers promote their app within the App Store search results. if you are a developer, this would mean that users will start discovering your app at the very moment they are searching for apps like yours. The Search Ads is expected to reach the users this fall only on the US App Store.

Apple says, over 65% of downloads come directly from searches on the App Store. So this definitely has great potential for developers to explore. Further with location aware algorithms, developers now have a new way to target specific user groups that matter to them.

There is no minimum spend for a developer to advertise on the Search Ads platform so you choose as per your budget. You can even set a daily maximum spend cap. Pricing is an auction based Cost Per Tap model, where you bid the maximum amount you are willing to pay for a customer to tap on your ad. Search Ads adheres to Apple’s privacy standards, user information does remain private.

As a consumer, you won’t see any ads for apps you already have downloaded on your device. Further, with demographic and device location based targeting in place, only relevant ads would reach you while you search.

Unlike Google, An ad will only be shown if it is relevant to the search query.
