India’s biggest independent summit for software developers is back for 2009! Packed with premium knowledge, action plans and advise from master speakers.
I would be attending the same tomorrow and the day after for the .NET tracks. I will post more live information, abstract and Presentation decks tomorrow and day-after. Keep watching this space for more information.
A little note on GIDS:
GIDS has been recognized by the THE HINDU as India’s biggest summit for software developers, including project managers, development managers, architects, system/database administrators, web designers and IT decision makers. For both veterans and newcomers to the world of .NET, Java, and the Rich Web, GIDS provides participants with a well-balanced learning experience that guarantee they go back with a richer understanding of the technologies that make a difference to their careers.

Stephan Forte’s session was the initial eye-catcher. It was a funny that his laptop didn’t work during his first presentation. Luckily, I had VPC 2007 running on Windows 7 laptop with Me., and it served his purpose. I was quite shocked when I saw a “blue screen of death” when he connected my laptop to the projector. I reckon, this could be the problem of Windows 7 beta drivers. After a reboot, my laptop just worked liked a charm for him. Wish, i knew about this before. I would have created a wallpaper of my pic and my blog, so that would’ve done some kind of advertisement

Our SQL guru and our very own Bdotnet guy Vinod’s session was a good one too. Vinod spoke about the 5 hidden gems which every developer should know about SQL server to take the best out of it.

Harish did a couple of sessions on Astoria and ASP.net at GIDS. However, his thoughts on XML (eXtreme Microsoftic Language) was great., because MS has always been one good implementer and promoter of XML.

Amit then came in with explaining the next generation ALM tools with VSTS 2010. Good thing was that, he took very realistic scenarios and explained how VSTS would offer a work around for the existing problems. His gesture of claps, worked his way..

There were many fascinating sessions which ran all through the day; however the Azure sessions were just fantastic. Saranya gave an insight on the pros and cons of application hosting and explained the significances of Azure. The session introduced the components and architecture of Azure and explained the fundamentals for many folks who wanted to start. Also, she made it clear that, Azure is not an OS, not a programming language.

Summing up, Sessions like Windows Live mesh and Azure were the ones which caught most of my attention during the GIDS 2009. The GIDS will end on Saturday, and I reckon, all the decks will be available only after that. I shall post the same, once available. Goodies was one place where there was a huge disappointment for many of us., The sad part was that, we did not even get a T-shirt which had a GIDS logo in it. Hope the team reviews it and does better for GIDS 2010.
