True Guru, Net can be used even on the other versions of the operating systems..but it would be primarily be used for application services.

In Windows 7, few machine level system services are made as trigger services. This helps in faster boot and shutdown of machines. It also improves the performance of the box.

We can also use "NET" command to start and stop the services as well
